Swiss carrier Edelweiss Air has launched direct operations at Tbilisi Shota Rustaveli International Airport, further strengthening Georgia’s air links with Western Europe.

The airline, a subsidiary of Swiss International Air Lines and part of the Lufthansa Group, operated its inaugural Zurich–Tbilisi flight with 151 passengers on board.

The Georgian Airports Association (GAA), which led negotiations with Edelweiss, confirmed the commencement of the new route, noting that the airline will operate regular direct flights between Zurich and Tbilisi twice a week using Airbus A320 aircraft.

To mark the occasion, an official welcoming ceremony was held at the airport’s Government Terminal. Attendees included Mariam Kvrivishvili, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development; Swiss Ambassador to Georgia Heidi Grau; Levan Moseshvili, Director General of the GAA; Givi Davitashvili, Director of the Civil Aviation Agency; Gocha Mezvrishvili, Director General of the Georgian Air Navigation Service; Maia Omiadze, Head of the National Tourism Administration; as well as senior representatives from Edelweiss, TAV Georgia, and other stakeholders.

Also on board the inaugural flight were representatives from major Swiss media outlets. Invited by the Georgian National Tourism Administration, the journalists will spend a week in the country producing reports and features about Georgia for Swiss audiences.

Founded 29 years ago, Edelweiss operates from its hub in Zurich, serving 90 destinations across Europe and the Americas. Tickets for the Zurich–Tbilisi route are available via both the Edelweiss and Swiss International Airlines websites.
