The Tbilisi City Court has sentenced former Georgian Interior Minister Bacho Akhalaia to two years and six months in prison.
The case concerns calls to violently overthrow Georgia’s constitutional order and state authority.
According to the investigation, Akhalaia made a statement that was deemed criminal during one of his own court hearings. He did not attend today's court session.
In addition, Akhalaia is facing a separate criminal case related to the organization of group violence during the events of October 4, 2024.
