Georgian Railways has initiated a competitive tender with a budget of 54.9 million GEL to acquire 300 state-of-the-art freight wagons. The tender specifies that each wagon, priced at 183,000 GEL, must be manufactured within the year 2023.

According to the terms of the tender, all components of the wagons—including towbars, trailers, shock absorbers, automatic systems, and braking mechanisms—must be brand-new and never previously employed in service. The wagons must also adhere to manufacturing guidelines stating they should not have been in operation or engaged in any loading or unloading activities.

The maintenance and repair schedule for these wagons is mandated to comply with international standards, as outlined in the "Regulation on the Repair and Maintenance System of Freight Wagons Allowed on Public Railway Tracks in International Traffic." This regulation was approved by Protocol No. 57 from the Central Council of Railways, dated October 16-17, 2012, and stipulates that the wagons must meet both calendar-based and mileage-based maintenance criteria.
