“The opposition will not be able to achieve new elections; the parliamentary elections will take place in 2028.” This was stated by Levan Machavariani, Deputy Chair of the parliamentary faction “Georgian Dream.”

According to the Georgian MP, local self-government elections will be held this October, and the ruling team has already started preparing for them.

“The opposition will not be able to bring about new elections. You can see the pressure coming from abroad—now do you understand why we left PACE? Of course, our delegation’s mandate was recognized in PACE, but we were presented with a condition: to hold snap parliamentary elections. When we ask on what grounds this demand is being made—silence. What can they answer, when there is physically no evidence?

Accordingly, not only the opposition, but whoever calls on us to step outside the bounds of the Constitution—we will not do so. We promised our citizens that we would never take actions that contradict either the Constitution of our country or its national interests. The regular parliamentary elections will be held, as stipulated by the Constitution, in 2028. Before that, in October of this year, local self-government elections will be held. It does not matter who participates, who doesn’t, who might be banned, and so on—we will be 100% ready in any case. We are preparing in such a way that even if everyone participates, we will win with a crushing score in all 64 municipalities,” said the Deputy Chair of the “Georgian Dream” faction.
