In Tbilisi, a cable car linking Rustaveli Avenue to Mtatsminda Park has been inaugurated. The rehabilitation of the cable car began in 2021.
As stated by Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze during the opening ceremony, the cable car is a circular single-cable gondola system, which includes lower and upper stations, as well as five support towers between them.
As part of the project, the interior of the lower station, located on Rustaveli Avenue, was fully renovated. Additionally, the upper drive station was built, and five support structures were erected. Passengers will be served by 21 eight-seater gondolas, covering the distance from Rustaveli to the park in just 4 minutes. The cable car can transport up to 1,200 passengers per hour in one direction.
The cable car between Rustaveli Avenue and Mtatsminda Park had not been operational for over 24 years.
