“Starting next academic year, in a test mode, wearing school uniforms will become mandatory for students from first to sixth grade in all public schools,” said Georgia’s Minister of Education Givi Mikanadze during the presentation of the general education reform.

According to him, socially vulnerable families will receive government support regarding the uniforms.

“We have decided that, in a test mode, starting next academic year, wearing school uniforms will become mandatory in all public schools at the initial stage — from grades 1 to 6. At the same time, we are taking into account the needs of socially vulnerable families. All families evaluated by the Ministry of Health at 60,000 points or below will receive appropriate support from the state,” Mikanadze said.
