Tbilisi is set to move forward with the construction of a modern tram line that will connect Didi Digomi with the Didube Metro Station, according to Mayor Kakha Kaladze. A public tender is being announced for both the design and construction of the 7.5-kilometer tram line, following a market survey conducted earlier this year.

“Today, we are announcing a tender for the procurement of design and construction works for the tram line. Previously, we had issued a tender for a market survey, which provided comprehensive data on the required location and route,” said Kaladze.

The proposed tram line will feature:

Length: 7.5 kilometers

Stops: 11

Fleet: 10 trams

Passenger Capacity: Each tram train will accommodate at least 300 passengers

The route will pass through Mirian Mepe Street, Agmashenebeli Alley, and Grigol Robakidze Avenue, cross the Shota Shalikashvili Bridge, and terminate near the Didube Metro Station. It will serve Tbilisi’s 3rd and 4th microdistricts of Didi Digomi, significantly improving public transit in the area.

The project will follow a Design-Build (DB) model, meaning the winning bidder will be responsible for both drafting technical documentation and executing the construction.

The project includes:

Construction of tracks, a contact line, depot, administrative building, tram laundry, technical service center, and security infrastructure

A tram control system with integrated signaling, automation, and communication

Passenger information systems (PIS), public address systems (PA), and video surveillance (CCTV) at stops and inside trams

A central Operations Control Center (OCC) to manage traffic, safety, and information systems

According to the Tbilisi Transport Company, participating bidders must demonstrate a minimum total turnover of USD 50 million for the period of 2022–2024.
