According to the Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia, the information circulated in Georgian media claiming that the Department of Inclusive Education has been abolished is not true.

As stated in the official announcement, in order to optimize the ministry’s structure and increase its efficiency, the Department of Strategic Planning and the Department of Inclusive Development were merged. As a result, the previously existing Department of Inclusive Development was given greater strategic importance.

“We also inform you that, starting in 2024, the functions of the Mandate Service of Educational Institutions (a legal entity under public law) have been expanded to include a component of inclusive education. Within the mandate service, a Center for Support of Inclusive and Special Education is operating, which is actively working on current and new services to support inclusive education. The aim is to further increase access to education for individuals with special educational needs and to improve the quality of education.

The development of an inclusive education system is one of the main priorities of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia. This is confirmed by the Unified National Strategy for Education and Science for 2022–2030.

The Ministry continues to actively strengthen its work in developing inclusive education and is implementing important projects in this direction,” the statement reads.
