U.S. President Donald Trump believes that the Ukrainian authorities, by carrying out Operation “Web,” gave Russia a pretext to strike Ukrainian territory on the night of June 6. The politician made this statement in an interview with journalists aboard Air Force One.
“The Ukrainian authorities gave Putin a reason to bomb them to hell,” Trump said in response to a journalist’s request to comment on the Ukrainian Operation “Web.” He also stated that he had expected a Russian response after receiving information about the operation.
Trump also noted that he would not want the Russia–Ukraine conflict to escalate into a war involving nuclear weapons, citing the standoff between India and Pakistan as an example. According to him, a further escalation between the two nuclear powers was averted after the White House threatened to halt trade with both nations.
