Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree that simplifies the process of acquiring Russian citizenship for residents of the occupied territories of Abkhazia and the so-called South Ossetia. This was reported by Meduza.
Applicants seeking Russian citizenship will no longer be required to reside permanently in the Russian Federation and will be exempt from passing exams in the Russian language and Russian history.
Now, residents of Abkhazia and the so-called South Ossetia will be able to submit their citizenship applications directly in Sukhumi and Tskhinvali — in the so-called “embassies.”
